A 26.9% tax increase in four years is not okay. Affordability is a real problem. Seniors on fixed incomes, families trying to make ends meet, and young people just starting out are all feeling the pressure, and increases like this only make it harder.
Households can’t continually spend beyond their means, and neither should the City of London. The City shouldn’t overspend and then simply expect Londoners to cover the bill through higher and higher taxes. We need better management of the money the City already has. Our taxes are high enough as it is without huge increases like this. We need to get back to responsible budgeting, setting priorities, finding efficiencies, and making sure we’re getting good value for every dollar the City spends.
