We Need To Declare A State Of Emergency On Homelessness In London

As Canadians, we are supposed to help people who need it the most, and right now, we're failing far too many people. People experiencing homelessness need a safe place to live and food to eat. Many also need access to mental health care and addiction treatment. The reality is that these essential supports are simply not available to nearly enough people.

A separate issue:

At the same time, our residents, businesses, and neighbourhoods need to feel safe.

We need real solutions, meaningful consequences for repeat offenders, and stronger action from all levels of government.

The City cannot solve this crisis alone, but in conjunction with other Ontario cities facing similar challenges, we can demand better, and push for lasting, positive change.

It's time for action, not more of the same.

I also want to recognize the incredible work being done by our local nonprofits, healthcare workers, emergency responders, and community organizations. Many are going above and beyond every day.
